What is Flagstaff Hoops

Mission

Flagstaff Hoops is an organized club basketball team for youth athletes in northern Arizona. The original team was established in 2002 by a group of dedicated athletes, coaches and parents who wanted a higher level of competition and more opportunity for themselves.

Each year, at the coaches’ discretion, Flagstaff Hoops offers the positions on the team to returning players first. If the team needs additional players, these positions are opened to the public through try-outs.

Coaches

All of our coaches coach on a volunteer basis and do not make any kind of salary. Flagstaff Hoops has helped the coaches with some of the travel expenses but this is minimal compared to the amount of time the coaches spend with the kids.

Teams

Each team that forms within the Flagstaff Hoops organization must have a Team Representative. The TR will be responsible for all traveling arrangements, team finances (together with the Organization’s Director and/or Assistant director), collections and day-to-day activities in coordination with the team coach. The main purpose of this role is to assist the coach with as much of the administrative duties of the team, while allowing the coach to “coach”.

The TR must work together with the Flagstaff Hoops Director and/or Assistant director to ensure sportsmanship and professional team and parent conduct are followed. It is up to the board of directors to grant a team membership which can be revoked if the board feels the team is not adhering to these standards.

Fundraising

All team parents and players may raise money to assist with team travel and player participation but in no way will the benefits raised be used for any other purpose but to ensure the teams success.

Benefits

Flagstaff Hoops strives to advance/maintain the best players and coaches in northern Arizona. The players pay for this quality training. The fees for club basketball go towards the training, not for playing. Remember, this program is a competitive basketball program and is run like one. The coaches are fair and give each player the opportunity to excel while balancing skills needed to be competitive.
